PANAJI: Siddiqui alias Suleman Khan, an accused in high-profile land grab cases, has approached the High Court of Bombay at Goa seeking to quash FIRs and chargesheets filed against him in connection with cases registered in Mapusa and Valpoi.
In his petition, scheduled for hearing on June 18, Khan has requested the court to either direct Revenue Courts to conduct the investigation or transfer the matter to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
He has also sought interim relief in the form of a stay on all proceedings until the case is resolved.
Earlier this year, in February, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) filed two detailed chargesheets against Khan, one related to fraudulent land acquisition in Mapusa and the other in Curca.
The chargesheets, running into 852 and 656 pages respectively, were filed before the Judicial Magistrate First Class in Mapusa and Valpoi.
The first FIR, registered in 2020, accuses Khan of forging land documents and impersonating the legal owners of a plot identified as Chalta No. 2 of PT Sheet No. 67 in Mapusa.
He is also alleged to have faked the official stamp of the Civil Registrar-cum-Sub-Registrar of Bardez to carry out the fraudulent transfer.
In a second case filed in 2021, Khan and his associates allegedly attempted to seize over 2.15 lakh square metres of land in Goalim-Moula, Tiswadi, popularly known as “Kot-Pot,” using similar methods of forgery and impersonation.
The SIT claims the same modus operandi was used in both cases.
