Panaji: In a striking observation, Goa’s Sports Minister Govind Gaude underscored the escalating value of land in the state, asserting it has surpassed even gold and pearls.
This sentiment was expressed during a ceremony where he laid the foundation stone for a one-kilometre-long bund along Mashel khazan, a project aimed at preserving agricultural land.
The event highlighted the importance of protecting Goa’s farmland, as agricultural land continues to dwindle due to farmers abandoning their fields.
“Land in Goa is now more valuable than gold or pearls”, Gaude said.
Calling for protecting Goa’s farmland, he urged farmers to continue cultivation, warning that agricultural land is diminishing as more farmers abandon farming.
“At one time, gold and pearls were considered the most valuable, but in Goa’s present situation, land is the most precious treasure,” Gaude said.
Gaude emphasized the critical role of farmland in providing sustenance, stating, “Cultivating these farmlands is of utmost importance as it provides food, which fuels the human body.”
He made these remarks in the presence of Water Resources Minister Subhash Shirodkar. The minister’s call to action comes at a time when the state is grappling with the challenges of preserving its agricultural heritage amidst rapid development.
