CANACONA: A landslide that had brought down huge boulders on the road, threatening people’s safety at Asali in Shristhal village continues to be vulnerable.
The landslide has brought down not only mud and trees but reportedly huge boulders/rocks that came tumbling down on the road at Asali-Shristhal a fortnight ago.
Initially, on intimation the road authorities came and removed the boulders and mud to safety, but left without taking any measures to stop further landslide in the area, alleges a team of congress workers who visited the area on Thursday.
According to Sidharth Gayak, a resident, the only road to Asali being regularly used by the residents is presently in a very dangerous situation.
“The mud is just sliding down and bringing along big rocks which roll down the road at any time. This road is used by everyone in the village, children going to school uses the same road, the situation is very risky and anyone can be caught at the wrong time,” he said.
According to Congress (South) District General Secretary Gaspar Coutinho, who along with other Congress workers visited the site for first-hand inspections, said, people of Asali are very much distressed at the way, authorities have kept the landslide vulnerable for more incidents to happen.
Stating the landslide has taken place a fortnight ago, the authorities initially responded and help to clear the road, but according to congress workers, the authorities have ignored to make the area and busy road safe for the people, especially school-going children.
The situation is very precarious as now and then a little landslide triggers bringing down trees and rocks roll down on the road.’
“We request the concerned department and particularly the taluka disaster management authority to look into it and do the needful as early as possible and make the lives of Asali villagers safe and out of danger,” he said.
