Sankhalim: An ADIP camp organised at Ravindra Bhavan in Sankhalim on Monday saw strong participation, as the State Commission for Persons with Disabilities and the Department for Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities distributed assistive devices to beneficiaries under the centrally sponsored scheme. The camp was held under the leadership of Minister for Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities Subhash Phal Dessai.
Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant attended the event, underlining the government’s commitment to strengthening disability welfare through doorstep access to aids and appliances. State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities Guruprasad Pawaskar, Department Director Varsha Naik and Commission Secretary Taha Haaziq were present for the distribution.
Dr Sawant said Goa continues to prioritise dignity, empowerment and inclusion for persons with disabilities. He added that the creation of a dedicated Divyang Department reflects the government’s aim to ensure every citizen has the opportunity to participate and live independently.
Minister Subhash Phal Dessai said the strong turnout at the camp shows the trust people place in the state’s welfare initiatives. He said the government intends to ensure that no eligible beneficiary is left without essential aids or supportive services.
Commissioner Pawaskar said the ADIP camps are being expanded across the state to reach a wider number of beneficiaries. He emphasised that assistive devices significantly improve mobility, communication and overall quality of life, and the Commission will continue its outreach.
The ADIP scheme covers a range of aids such as wheelchairs, crutches and hearing aids. Since April 2024, more than 1300 persons with disabilities in Goa have received devices under the programme. The Sankhalim camp is part of the Commission’s ongoing effort to make assistive technologies accessible across the state and help persons with disabilities lead more independent lives.
