BELAGAVI: Belagavi court remanded Amirsuhil Shakilsab Sanadi to 14 days of judicial custody. Sanadi was arrested in Death Case of former MLA Lavoo
In a tragic incident that has shaken the political and social circles of Goa, former Ponda MLA Lavoo Mamledar lost his life following a violent altercation with an auto driver in Belagavi, Karnataka, on Saturday. The incident occurred around 1:30 PM near the Srinivas Residency Hotel in the Khade Bazaar area, a location Mamledar frequently visited.
Mamledar, 68, who served as the MLA for Ponda from 2012 to 2017, was involved in a minor accident when his car grazed the auto driven by Amirsuhil Shakilsab Sanadi. The auto driver demanded compensation for the damage, which Mamledar refused, leading to a heated argument. The situation escalated when Sanadi slapped Mamledar multiple times, despite interventions by bystanders.
CCTV footage captured the altercation, showing the auto driver assaulting Mamledar. After the incident, Mamledar attempted to climb the stairs to his hotel room but collapsed in the reception area. He was immediately rushed to the Belagavi District Hospital, where he was declared dead after various tests, including an ECG.
Sanadi, the 26-year-old auto driver, was arrested by the Khade Bazaar Police and is currently under interrogation. A case of murder has been registered against him at the Market Police Station. The police are continuing their investigation, including examining the circumstances surrounding the fatal altercation and determining whether any underlying health conditions contributed to Mamledar’s death.
Mamledar’s family, who were en route from Goa, arrived in Belagavi to handle the formalities. His body was brought back to Goa after a post-mortem examination, and the funeral was held on Sunday.
Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant expressed deep condolences over Mamledar’s demise and assured a thorough investigation. “The state administration is in close coordination with local authorities in Belagavi to ensure the circumstances surrounding the incident are fully examined and justice is served,” he stated.
Mamledar, a former deputy superintendent of police and a distinguished public servant, is survived by his wife, Shanti, and two daughters. His death has been met with widespread grief and shock, with many political leaders and social activists paying their tributes.
