CALANGUTE: Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) President Amit Patkar has sharply criticized the BJP-led government in Goa, alleging a complete breakdown of law and order following a violent incident at a popular biryani restaurant in Calangute.
According to Patkar, a group of unidentified individuals allegedly entered the restaurant, consumed food without paying, physically assaulted the staff, and then fled the scene.
He stated that the entire act was captured on CCTV, yet over 60 hours have passed without any arrests being made.
In a strongly worded press statement, Patkar accused the Goa Police of inaction and questioned whether they were working to protect citizens or shielding individuals with political connections.
“This horrifying incident exposes BJP’s Gundaraj in Goa. Goans no longer feel safe, and tourism stakeholders live in constant fear,” Patkar said.
He also called out Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte, alleging that the minister’s claims of “Safe & Smart Tourism” have been exposed as “a blatant lie.”
Patkar demanded immediate action from the Director General of Police (DGP) and the North Goa Superintendent of Police, asking why the culprits have not yet been identified and apprehended despite the availability of CCTV footage and eyewitness testimony.
He further demanded the suspension of police officers who failed to respond effectively and held Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant and the Tourism Minister accountable for the deteriorating law and order situation in the state.
Calling the incident a symptom of a larger governance failure, Patkar emphasized that this was not an isolated case.
He warned that Goa’s reputation as a peaceful and welcoming tourist destination was at risk. “Goa is our peaceful, beautiful homeland — we will not allow BJP’s Gundaraj to destroy it,” he said, expressing solidarity with the assaulted restaurant staff and urging swift action from the state authorities.
As of now, the Goa Police have not released any official update regarding the case or the status of the investigation.
