PANAJI: The legal system in our country in the modern days are abreast with the latest happenings and is more people-centric, providing justice to the common men. Indian judicial system, including law commission, should study the issues affecting the common people, said Governor of Goa P.S. Sreedharan Pillai.
Today, the Governor was speaking at a ceremony organized to Commence Judicial Proceedings of the High Court of Bombay at Goa at Porvorim.
The Governor appreciating Chief Minister in his regime said Goa would be privileged to have national and international law universities in Goa. He said today that the wheel of justice began to move in this state-of-art premise and hoped that Goa would achieve greater glory serving and fulfilling the very purpose of Judiciary, he added.
In his address, Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant said that the liberation movement of Goa, which was fought, culminated in attaining liberation, which aimed at all sorts of justice, legal and social, its entire citizen in Goa. Ensuring or access to justice to all is a fundamental tenet of our constitution owing to this objective, the Government’s endeavour is to strengthen judicial infrastructure.
The Chief Minister said that the necessity of adequate infrastructure for the Judiciary cannot be undermined but has to be created considering the changing conditions because it is co-related. The idea behind providing a robust infrastructure for Judiciary aims to deliver every citizen equal justice. The Government is committed to impart justice to all citizens, which will continue henceforth, he remarked.
While addressing, Chief Justice of High Court at Bombay Dipankar Datta said that it is a historical moment in Goa’s history; the actual functioning of this High Court is beginning from this State of Art building. It is the moment of pride and privilege to start judicial proceedings from here. He said in a democracy, the expectation of justice is one of the most important functions.
He said Goa Bar Association has a rich tradition of producing eminent lawyers despite difficult odd situations. There are issues of pendency of cases that will be tackled in future and hoped for imparting justice to nerdy marginalized people in the State.
President, High Court Bar Association Adv. Jayant Mulgaonkar àlso spoke on occasion.
Advocate General Government of Goa Adv. Devidas Pangam, Secretary Law C.S.Garg IAS, Shri Justice M.S.Sonak, Senior Judges, Members of Bar Association, and Advocates were present on occasion.
Sr. Most Judge, High Court of Bombay at Goa Shri Justice Sunil P. Deshmukh welcomed the dignitaries.
