OZRI: Residents of Ozri village are gripped by fear following a spate of leopard attacks that have led to the deaths of 11 calves over the last three months.
Local farmer Rajaram Ramesh Naik said villagers have repeatedly appealed to the Forest Department for action but received little response. “We have filed several complaints and sent letters, yet no cage has been installed to trap the animal,” he said, expressing frustration over the department’s inaction.
The village, surrounded by thick forest, has become increasingly vulnerable to wildlife incursions. Locals allege that the absence of preventive measures has allowed leopards to venture dangerously close to homes and farms.
The situation has heightened anxiety among parents, as the village’s primary school lies near the forest boundary. “We fear for our children every day. The entire community is living in constant tension,” a resident said.
Villagers have urged the Forest Department to act swiftly by setting up cages, stepping up night patrolling, and implementing effective safety measures to prevent further attacks and restore normalcy in the area.
