CANACONA: A leopard was sighted walking magnificently in the courtyard of a house at a busy locality of Char-Rasta in Canacona, causing panic among residents in the area.
CCTV footage captured the Leopard moving in the courtyard of a well-known contractor and builder Vishwas Desai’s house on Sunday night at about 9.30 pm.
This has alarmed family members who after the leopard on CCTV saw it walking through their courtyard and silently jumping out. Residents in the having their houses in surrounding on either side of MDR 49 road, are also alarmed since they frequently move around in the area at night.
The house is located on one side of the MDR 49 road (Canacona-Agonda) near the temporarily functioning municipality office closely, where this road leading from Char Rasta to the Palolem beach and domestic and foreign tourists regularly walk on the road at night.
Desai has written to the forest department requesting authorities to trap the leopard before it becomes a menace by attacking pets, and also humans, and relocate the leopard somewhere away from their area.
It was a sight which can frighten any one as the area is surrounded with even shacks and restaurants either sides of the road and nearby an extension counters of a hospital and the municipal office (remains closed at night) which function late nights and mostly this areas remain highly illumination all around.
