Bicholim: A motorcycle rider sustained injuries after a leopard leapt onto his two-wheeler while attempting to cross the road at Mulgaon on Saturday night, triggering fresh concerns over wildlife movement in the area.
The incident occurred at around 8 pm on the Mulgaon main road, where the sudden appearance of the leopard caused the motorcycle to crash, leaving the vehicle badly damaged.
The injured rider has been identified as Digambar Naik, a resident of Mulgaon. He suffered injuries to his hand and leg and was rushed to the Bicholim Health Centre. After receiving primary medical care, he was later discharged.
Locals have reported a rise in leopard sightings in and around Mulgaon over the past few days, leading to anxiety among residents. Acting on these reports, Forest Department officials have installed a trap cage in the area; however, the animal continues to be spotted near human habitations.
Residents have appealed to the authorities to take immediate and effective measures to prevent further incidents and ensure the safety of people in the locality.
