CANACONA: Power Minister Sudin Dhavalikar called on citizens to contribute towards building a civilized society and a prosperous nation, while stressing that development must begin at the village level.
Speaking as chief guest at the 79th Independence Day flag-hoisting ceremony near the Canacona Deputy Collector’s office, Dhavalikar said, “Every village in every State and Union Territory should be developed. If every village is developed, the country as a whole stands developed. This feeling of ‘nation first’ should be ingrained in the hearts of every Indian. We got freedom through the sacrifices of freedom fighters and we should always remember their sacrifice.”
He also paid tribute to the contributions of Mahatma Gandhi, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and Atal Bihari Vajpayee in shaping the nation, and lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for unmatched development. Dhavalikar added that citizens must use new technology responsibly and carry in their hearts the resolve to do something for the nation.
The ceremony saw the hoisting of the tricolour by Dhavalikar, in the presence of Deputy Collector Prataprao Naik Gaonkar, Canacona Municipal Council Chairperson Sara Shambha Naik Desai, councilors, police officials, government officers, freedom fighters’ families, citizens, teachers and students. A guard of honour was presented by Canacona police, followed by cultural performances by students of local schools.
