New Delhi: On World Wildlife Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi underscored the imperative of preserving biodiversity, emphasizing that every species plays a crucial role in the ecosystem. In a message shared on social media, PM Modi reiterated India’s commitment to protecting wildlife, highlighting the nation’s cultural affinity for environmental conservation. This dedication is exemplified by India’s notable achievements in wildlife preservation, particularly in the growth of its tiger population, which is outpacing other countries.
PM Modi’s message resonated with India’s ongoing efforts to enhance wildlife conservation. He noted, “Today, on #WorldWildlifeDay, let’s reiterate our commitment to protect and preserve the incredible biodiversity of our planet. Every species plays a vital role—let’s safeguard their future for generations to come!” The Prime Minister also expressed pride in India’s contributions to wildlife preservation, citing the country’s cultural and traditional emphasis on coexisting with nature.
In line with this commitment, PM Modi is set to visit Sasan Gir in Gujarat, a region renowned for its Asiatic lion population. During his visit, he will inaugurate a new veterinary hospital designed to improve healthcare facilities for these majestic creatures. This initiative aligns with the broader theme of World Wildlife Day, which this year focuses on ‘Wildlife Conservation Finance: Investing in People and Planet.’ The Prime Minister will also preside over a meeting of the National Board for Wildlife, discussing key conservation strategies and promoting inclusivity by engaging with women forest staff.
Gujarat has been at the forefront of lion conservation, with concerted efforts to expand and safeguard the Asiatic lion’s habitat. The state has established a National Referral Centre for Wildlife and introduced advanced facilities, including a high-tech monitoring centre and a state-of-the-art veterinary hospital. These initiatives reflect a comprehensive approach to conservation, combining technological advancements with community engagement programs like ‘Gir Samvad Setu,’ which has facilitated over 300 community programs to address local concerns and raise conservation awareness.
