CANACONA: We are living in a liberated and free Goa and if every citizen does their bits with responsibility and work faithfully, it will not take much time to develop our State and take to greater glory, stated Canacona Municipal Council (CMC) Chairperson Sara Shamba Naik Desai.
Speaking further Sara said ‘We need to work in unison and in solidarity with each other, only then not only Goans in Goa, but every Indian contribution will make India a world guru (leader).’
Chairperson Sara was speaking after offering a Wrath at the Martyr’s Memorial near the Division Education Office, Chaudi where scores of Freedom Fighters of Canacona Taluka who fought Portuguese, took part in revolutionary activities against the Portuguese regime and even laid their lives to give Liberation to Goa in later years, on Tuesday, on the occasion of Goa Revolution Day.
On this occasion, Chaudi ward councillor Ramakant Naik Gaonkar, CMC Chief Officer Mangaldas Gaonkar, councilors Neetu Samir Desai, Amita Pagi, Shubham Komarpant, Gandesh Madgaonkar, CMC Vice-Chairperson Narcisco (Nadin) Fernandes, Simon Rebello, Laxuman Pagui, and several prominent citizens were present.
Speaking on the occasion, CMC Chief Officer Mangaldas Gaonkar said that the Portuguese, who came to Goa as traders, colonized and ruled our beautiful Goa for 450 years. Several of or Goans revolted and also agitated, and Soldiers of India liberated Goa from Portuguese annexation through ‘Operation Vijay’. Gaonkar wished the people present on Goa Revolution Day.
At the beginning, CMC Chairperson Sara placed a flowers-wrath at the Martyr’s Memorial while others present offered flower garlands and flowers.
A young student of Government Primary School, Chaudi Lombha Sheikh, gave a speech on Goa’s Revolution and Liberation from Portuguese 450 years long occupation.
