PANAJI: Displaying remarkable courage amid turbulent weather, Drishti Marine lifesavers successfully rescued 42 people — 38 tourists aboard a cruise boat and four others on a dinghy — after both vessels got stranded among rocks off Aguada Bay in North Goa on Thursday evening.
The incident occurred amid thunderstorm-induced rough seas and choppy waves that made rescue operations extremely challenging. A team of 12 Drishti Marine lifesavers, equipped with a rigid inflatable boat (RIB) and jetskis, first reached the cruise boat that had become stuck due to the turbulent sea conditions. Despite the difficult circumstances, all 38 passengers were safely evacuated and brought ashore.
Soon after, the team was alerted to another emergency nearby where a dinghy had become trapped among rocks. The lifesavers quickly responded and rescued the four occupants without any injuries.
Both operations were completed swiftly and safely, thanks to the coordinated efforts of the Drishti Marine team and the assistance provided by staff from the nearby Aguad Jail and Port complex, who supplied additional equipment such as lights and ropes.
The 12 lifesavers involved in the twin rescues were Aakash Fulkar, Pratap Naik, Mahesh Chalwadi, Laxmikant Komtekar, Ramakant Kankonkar, Manguesh Gawas, Amit Mahale, Umesh Madekar, Gaurav Gawde, Ajay Singh, Kartik Naik, and Hemant Basera.
