New Delhi: On a night dominated by batters, Jasprit Bumrah once again proved why he’s among the best in the business. Amid a run-fest at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, where a staggering 436 runs were scored, Bumrah’s miserly spell stood out like a gem.
In the IPL 2025 Eliminator clash between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Gujarat Titans (GT), Bumrah delivered four overs of disciplined fast bowling, conceding just 27 runs and picking up the crucial wicket of Washington Sundar. His spell featured only two boundaries and a six, highlighting his control on a pitch where bowlers struggled.
Sundar, who threatened to take the game away from MI with a fiery 48 off 23 balls, was undone by a trademark Bumrah yorker, which shifted momentum back in MI’s favour.
MI skipper Hardik Pandya didn’t hold back in his praise, calling Bumrah a “luxury” to have in the side.
“Whenever you think the game is slipping away, just bring in Bumrah. It’s that simple. He’s like Mumbai housing prices – that expensive,” said Pandya.
“It was crucial that Jassi bowled that over. He helped stretch the margin and tighten our grip on the game.”
Among the six bowlers who completed their full quota of four overs, Bumrah’s economy rate of 6.8 was the best, followed by Rashid Khan’s 7.8.
While Bumrah was clinical with the ball, it was veteran opener Rohit Sharma who took home the Player of the Match award. His explosive 81 off 50 balls propelled MI to a formidable 228/5. GT, in response, managed 208/6, falling short by 20 runs.
With this win, MI advance to Qualifier 2, where they will face Punjab Kings. The winner of that clash will meet Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the IPL 2025 final on June 3.
