MORMUGAO: A loaded truck (KA 22 C 1190) moving at high speed lost control and fell on its side along a sharp turn on the recently inaugurated port connectivity flyover on Friday evening.
According to sources, the truck was exiting the port when the driver seemingly lost control on the curve. While the flyover’s strong crash barrier prevented the truck from falling off, the cargo of wooden chips spilled onto the road below. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and the driver escaped with minor injuries.
This incident has raised concerns among local residents, who have now demanded immediate safety measures at the accident-prone spot.
“This is the second accident at the same location in just a few days. A car had overturned here recently, and now a loaded truck has met with an accident. Vehicles often speed along this stretch, making it difficult to control them at the sharp turn. A speed breaker and a signboard warning drivers to slow down must be installed immediately,” said a concerned local.
Another resident highlighted the reckless usage of the flyover: “The government has provided excellent infrastructure, but some people treat it like a racing track. Additionally, many use this stretch for morning and evening walks, increasing the risk of accidents. Pedestrians must understand that this is unsafe and could cost them their lives.”
Locals are urging authorities to take swift action to ensure road safety and prevent further mishaps on the flyover.
