Panaji: Reacting sharply to the recent acid attack on a minor boy at a bus stand in Dhargal, Calangute MLA Michael Lobo on Monday condemned the incident, calling it a “planned act of revenge” and urged the police to deal with the accused with firm hands.
“This was a premeditated attack. Such acts of revengeful thinking have no place in a civilised society,” Lobo said, responding to media queries. He emphasised that while the police cannot be blamed for the crime, they must ensure that a strong message is sent across to prevent such incidents from recurring.
“The police are doing their duty. But as citizens, we must also show restraint. There has to be fear of the law. If needed, third-degree measures must be applied to ensure that the accused feels the heat,” Lobo stated.
He warned that if strict and swift action is not taken, such violent tendencies could spread. “The person who planned and executed this crime must face the harshest punishment. Otherwise, these things will keep repeating,” he added.
Lobo also urged the public not to take the law into their own hands, stressing the importance of allowing the police and judiciary to carry out their roles. “Goa is a peaceful state, and we must preserve that. The police must act decisively against such elements to keep our society safe,” he said.
