Calangute; Calangute MLA Michael Lobo has come down heavily on local police, warning of a protest outside the Director General of Police’s office if immediate action is not taken to rid the beach belt of touts and unauthorised guides.
“Touts are spoiling Calangute’s image. I don’t want even a single tout in the area. If this menace doesn’t stop, I will personally write against the Calangute Police Station,” Lobo said, adding that such activities were tarnishing the reputation of Goa’s most visited tourist destination.
The MLA called on police to maintain a 24×7 presence along the beach and in parking zones to prevent thefts and harassment of tourists. He stressed that strict enforcement was essential to protect Calangute’s standing as a safe and welcoming destination.
Lobo’s ultimatum comes amid growing complaints from locals and visitors about persistent tout activity in the coastal belt. “If the police fail to act now, I will take matters into my own hands,” he warned.
