PONDA: It’s risky to travel on a pothole-ridden damaged road on Borim bridge.
Locals and Panch member Sunil Sawkar have demanded immediate repair road on Borim bridge.
Sunil Sawkar said locals are complaining about several potholes on Borim bridge, posing a risk to vehicles.
Every day thousands of vehicles travel through Borim Bridge.
Sawkar said the bridge road should be made only using concrete as the hot mix is washed away in rains, resulting in potholes on the road.
“For the past several years, we are inviting government attention to this bridge in dilapidated condition and needs a parallel new bridge. It is difficult to avoid potholes for bike riders as there is a cosntant flow of heavy traffic from behind and opposite direction,” he said.
He added that the Portuguese era bridge could be reconstructed for two-wheeler traffic.
The bridge is used by vehicles commuting on Margao Karwar, Mangalore Bangalore, besides cars towards Belgaum.
The employees commuting daily from Ponda on Margao travels on the bikes and faces hardship in avoiding potholes.
Bike riders say there are chances of accidents as while avoiding one pothole, the other potholes pose a risk of accidents. A few years back, one woman riding a pillion fell and died when a bike rider tried to avoid potholes on the bridge.
The locals demand that only the road on the bridge be made of concrete as Hotmix carpeting on concrete base wash away, resulting in worsening of road condition.
