CANACONA: After the inauguration of state the art Utility cum Changing room at the entrance of the world-famous Palolem beach, Palolem locals and tourism stakeholders have appealed to the authorities concerned to repair the approach road the Palolem beach immediately.
The about two-kilometre road leading to the entrance of the Palolem beach from Char Rasta is in a pathetic state with potholes; the road is also dug on half of the side of the road for laying municipal water pipeline greatly inconveniencing the commuters.
Lakhs of tourists both desi (domestic) and firangi (foreign) visit the beach for its alluring beauty and clear blue waters and with no proper road are left disappointed locals complained.
“The road is in pathetic condition and is causing huge problems for the people living in the area, especially those who have to commute for medical cases and for the many guests who come here,” said Socky Da’ Silva, a local activist.
He said owing to such conditions, the guests do not have such sweet memories of their visit or stay at the world-famous Palolem beach; the road is narrow. The potholes combined with the unaspirated patches lead to the road becoming a nightmare for everyone, more so at peak traffic hours.
The road was dug all along to lay a water conveying pipeline; the contractor is supposed to asphalt the road but for strange. Reasons it lies asphalted, he complained.
Da’ Silva, like other locals, expressed hope that the administration would take the initiative to address the problem being faced by people as early as possible as the tourist season has already started.
