PANAJI: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant today said that the Central Election Committee (CEC) has recommended that BJP Goa should also propose one woman candidate.
“Central Election Committee (CEC) has recommended that BJP Goa should also propose one woman candidate. Given that BJP has given 33% reservation for women” said CM Pramod Sawant while addressing the press conference in the city.
He further said that the no names of probable candidates from South Goa are rejected.
“Since Ramesh Tawadkar and Digambar Kamat voluntarily opted out, three names were taken forward from the select committee to the CEC,” he added.
Sawant further said that women candidates’ names will be shortlisted in the next 3 to 4 days and will be sent to the scrutiny committee.
“Later finalised names will be sending the Parliamentary Board for approval before announcing the final candidate. It can be that South Goa candidate could be announced in Phase 3 list,” he added.
He also said that this will be the first women candidate for Lok Sabha polls in Goa.
BJP has formally announced the name of four-time MP Shripad Naik as their candidate for the North Goa Lok Sabha Constituency seat.
The South Goa seat candidate was not announced in the first list. BJP released the first list of 195 candidates for Lok Sabha elections in the national capital today
