The Lok Sabha has passed the Readjustment of Representation of Scheduled Tribes in Goa Assembly Constituencies Bill, 2025, marking a significant step towards ensuring adequate political representation for the tribal communities in the state.
The move comes after years of demands and is being hailed as a major milestone in empowering Scheduled Tribes in Goa through constitutional means. The passage of the bill reflects the Union Government’s push for inclusive governance and commitment to addressing the aspirations of tribal populations.
The legislation is expected to pave the way for delimitation and restructuring of assembly constituencies to provide rightful representation to the Scheduled Tribes, who form a vital part of Goa’s social and cultural fabric.
Goa Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant has expressed heartfelt gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Union Government for the passage of the Readjustment of Representation of Scheduled Tribes in Goa Assembly Constituencies Bill, 2025 in the Lok Sabha.
Calling it a “historic moment”, the Chief Minister hailed the development as a result of the BJP Government’s sustained efforts.
“This is a success of the BJP Government’s persistent efforts and reflects the Modi Government’s unwavering commitment to inclusive governance and tribal empowerment,” Dr. Sawant tweeted.
The legislation is expected to pave the way for greater political representation for Goa’s tribal communities, addressing a long-pending demand for equity and voice in the legislative process.
