After directing FIRs in the labourgate scams, Goa’s Lokayuka PK Misra, who retired last week had passed another crucial order asking the Anti-Corruption Bureau to investigate the dustbin purchase scam in the tourism department.
“A high ranking offcer of ACB should make an inquiry in the light of observation made in this report. Thereafter appropriate actions, including litigation of prosecution should be taken,” Misra said in the order,.
Activist Inacio Domnick Pereira of NGO Hope Foundation, had exposed the dustbin scam in 2019.
Pereira in his complaint had alleged scam in the purchase of dustbins and had named Tourism Minister Manohar Ajgaonkar, the then Tourism Director Sanjiv Gadkar and Drishti Marine in the scam.
He alleged that bulk purchase of dustbins by the tourism department through Drishti was without tendering the works.
“The reason why such ad hoc arrangement was made to continue for more than two and half years appears to be mysterious. If the ACB in course of its inquiry finds the liability or culminability on any individual person, it would be free to take any action including criminal action in accordance with law,” Lokayukta order said.
