New Delhi: The Lokpal of India has issued a tender seeking the purchase of seven high-end BMW 3 Series 330 Li cars, each valued at nearly Rs 70 lakh, bringing the total expenditure close to Rs 5 crore. The tender, dated October 16, specifies that the vehicles should be the Sport Long Wheelbase model in white.
The cars are expected to be delivered to the Lokpal office in Delhi’s Vasant Kunj Institutional Area within two weeks, with a maximum window of 30 days from the date of the supply order. According to BMW, the new 3 Series Long Wheelbase, launched in India earlier this year, offers the longest wheelbase in its segment, promising a spacious and luxurious experience, particularly in the rear seats.
The Lokpal, established under the Lokpal and Lokayuktas Act 2013, is the first institution in India empowered to investigate allegations of corruption against public functionaries. It currently comprises a chairperson and six other members. The chairperson’s salary and allowances are aligned with those of the Chief Justice of India, while members receive compensation equivalent to a Supreme Court judge.
In addition to supplying the vehicles, the selected vendor will be required to conduct a comprehensive training programme for the drivers and designated staff. This programme will cover both practical and theoretical aspects of operating the BMW vehicles safely and efficiently. The training is expected to last at least seven days and must be completed within 15 days of vehicle delivery, with the schedule to be finalised in consultation with the Lokpal.
This purchase underscores the institution’s emphasis on providing its members with state-of-the-art transportation while ensuring proper handling and safety of the high-end vehicles.
