Canacona: The Loliem-Polem Communidade has called for an extraordinary general body meeting in ordinary form on July 6 to deliberate on several proposals seeking long-term lease of communidade land for various public and private development projects. The meeting is scheduled to be held at 10:30 am at the Sabhamandap of Shri Keshav Devalaya, Loliem, following publication of the notice in the Official Gazette.
Among the proposals to be discussed is the grant of concurrence for a joint inspection and survey of 1 lakh square metres of land previously approved for lease to eight agro-based industrialb units. This lease, sanctioned in April for a renewable period of 20 years, involves a firm in which Goa Legislative Assembly Speaker and Canacona MLA Ramesh Tawadkar is reportedly one of the directors.
Other applications on the agenda include a proposal from Vadenagar Shikshan Seva Mandal, Vasco, seeking 50,000 square metres of land for setting up a Sainik School for the state of Goa. Another major proposal comes from Concord Innovations Pvt Ltd, Mumbai, which has requested 15 lakh square metres of land to establish a 100 MW solar power plant project. The Polem Cricket Club has also submitted an application seeking land for the development of a cricket ground, reportedly following an announcement by the Goa Cricket Association (GCA) expressing interest in constructing a stadium in Canacona, subject to land availability.
Additionally, the Communidade will consider a request from the Project Cell of GTDC’s Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV), based in Panaji, for land to construct wayside amenities for tourists. The final item on the agenda pertains to the Communidade’s own proposal to develop a commercial building comprising an office, shops, and a multipurpose hall to generate revenue.
The July 6 meeting is expected to play a key role in determining the future course of land use in Loliem-Polem, with proposals spanning the sectors of education, sports, energy, tourism, and local economic development.
