PANAJI: Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao today raised the issue of noise pollution in the coastal belt, particularly in Assagao, during Zero Hour in the Legislative Assembly.
Alemao drew the House’s attention to KIKI’s Bar and Restaurant, alleging that loud music is played late into the night and spills over into the early morning hours, exceeding permissible decibel limits.
He said such violations were causing serious hardship to local residents.
The LoP said noise pollution in Assagao and other coastal areas was adversely affecting students by disturbing their studies and was also impacting the health of senior citizens. He further pointed out that autistic children were among the worst affected, as loud noise leads to sleep disturbances and, in some cases, convulsions.
Alemao urged the government to take immediate and strict action against establishments violating noise pollution norms to ensure relief to residents.
