MARGAO: Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao assured residents of Curtorim constituency that their concerns — including damaged roads, pipeline leakages, and illegal parking of fishing vessels — will be addressed.
Alemao was speaking at the ‘Samvidhan Bachao Yatra’ held in Curtorim. The event saw the presence of GPCC President Amit Patkar, Congress leader Joseph Vaz, Curtorim Zilla Panchayat member Michelle Rebello, Moreno Rebello, Chirag Naik, Savio D’Silva, and other Congress functionaries.
During interactions, locals expressed frustration over what they described as the BJP government’s apathy towards Curtorim’s problems. Issues raised included lack of basic infrastructure, poor road conditions, and inaction on repeated complaints.
“The BJP government has failed in every aspect — from law and order to public welfare. Roads are dug up repeatedly and left incomplete. Departments don’t coordinate, leading to unnecessary hardships,” said Alemao.
On the growing concerns of communal polarisation, Alemao warned against “non-state actors” trying to divide society along religious lines.
“Goans have always lived in harmony. We must not let any force destroy this unity,” he stressed.
Speaking on water-related issues, Alemao claimed over 50% of water is being wasted due to neglected pipeline leakages.
“The BJP government hasn’t replaced old pipelines laid during the Congress regime, yet it boasts of development. Goa is now under a debt of over ₹35,000 crore,” he added.
GPCC President Amit Patkar also launched a scathing attack on the BJP.
“The BJP is bulldozing democracy and undermining the Constitution drafted by Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar. We must unite to protect it,” he said.
Patkar added that the Congress party is regaining momentum, with new leaders joining the fold and grassroots support growing steadily.
