Margao : Madganvcho Awaaz on Thursday launched “Asmitai Vars”, a year-long initiative to commemorate 60 years of Goa’s historic Opinion Poll of 1967, with senior advocate and Opinion Poll movement stalwart Adv. Uday Bhembre describing the programme as timely and meaningful.
Unveiling the commemorative poster, Adv. Bhembre said that while crores are spent on events that are forgotten within days, initiatives like Asmitai Vars are important as they create lasting milestones for future generations. He подчеркed the need to remember and pass on the legacy of the Opinion Poll, which played a crucial role in shaping Goa’s identity.
Youth leader Prabhav Naik, present along with social worker Dattaraj Pai Fondekar, said he was proud to carry forward a rich legacy associated with the Opinion Poll movement. He recalled the contributions of his great grandfather Narcinva Naik and grandfather Anant alias Babu Naik, whose roles in the historic movement are well documented. Naik said Madganvcho Awaaz would continue to honour eminent Goans who have worked to safeguard Goa’s language, culture and identity.
As part of the launch, Madganvcho Awaaz honoured living stalwarts of the Opinion Poll movement by personally visiting their residences and presenting them with mementos, shawls, bouquets and saplings as a mark of respect.
Those honoured included Adv. Uday Bhembre, Prof. Shyam Verencar, Smriti Audi, Aruna Telang, N. Shivdas, Sadanand Kanekar and Tomazinho Cardozo, all of whom played significant roles in the movement that shaped Goa’s destiny.
The honoured stalwarts lauded the efforts of Prabhav Naik and Madganvcho Awaaz, expressing confidence that the year-long Asmitai Vars programme would inspire the younger generation to understand, value and protect Goa’s unique heritage.
