Margao: Citizens’ platform Madganvcho Awaaz has resolved to stand firmly with all voices of conscience and actively participate in collective efforts to safeguard Goa for future generations. The group reaffirmed its commitment to protect the State’s land, environment, villages and people through unity, vigilance and moral resolve.
Responding to an appeal by former Bombay High Court Judge Justice Ferdino Rebello, youth leader Prabhav Naik met Justice Rebello on Tuesday and submitted a formal resolution on behalf of Madganvcho Awaaz, expressing solidarity with his call for Goans to unite against unchecked and destructive development.
Madganvcho Awaaz noted that Justice Rebello’s statement, widely carried by major newspapers and followed by strong editorial responses, struck a deep chord across Goa. The organisation said his articulation of the environmental crisis resonated strongly with citizens who are witnessing the rapid erosion of ecological balance and traditional village life.
The resolution stated that Justice Rebello’s words went far beyond reacting to a single news report, reflecting deep pain, concern and a profound sense of responsibility towards protecting Goa’s hills, forests, rivers, seashores and villages from unregulated construction and exploitation.
As a citizens’ platform, Madganvcho Awaaz reiterated that it has consistently raised issues related to the collapse of law and order, failures in disaster and safety management systems, dangerous roads, inadequate healthcare facilities, environmental degradation and the alarming rise in crime. It stressed that while these crises may appear different, they all stem from governance models that place profit above people and development above dignity.
With Goa standing at the threshold of a New Year, Madganvcho Awaaz resolved that 2026 must mark the beginning of a renewed people’s movement to defend the State’s environment, social fabric and dignity through collective action, accountability and unwavering moral courage.
