Margao: Madganvcho Awaaz has written to Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant demanding the immediate scrapping of the recruitment process initiated by the Margao Municipal Council (MMC), alleging serious irregularities, lack of transparency and arbitrary decision-making that have eroded public confidence.
Youth leader Prabhav Naik stated that continuing with what he described as a flawed recruitment exercise would result in grave injustice to educated youth. In his letter, Naik recalled that he had earlier raised objections on November 8, 2024, calling for the scrapping of the recruitment, issuance of an ordinance to bring all self-governing bodies under the Staff Selection Commission (SSC), and the appointment of a high-level committee to inquire into MMC recruitments, promotions and regularisation of contractual staff.
Naik also referred to an earlier incident in which he had sealed an envelope in front of the media containing names of candidates allegedly expected to be selected through favouritism, stating that the envelope would be opened after the declaration of final results.
Highlighting a major anomaly, Naik pointed out that the number of seat numbers allotted for the written examination reportedly exceeded the total number of valid applications received. He said such a discrepancy raises serious doubts about manipulation and makes the entire process highly suspect.
He further stated that out of over 700 candidates who appeared for the written examination, only 34 were shortlisted for the skill test, calling the elimination rate abnormal. According to him, this not only questions the credibility of the evaluation process but also reflects poorly on the state of the education system.
Madganvcho Awaaz has opposed the recruitment from the outset, following MMC’s advertisement for 11 posts of Lower Division Clerk, one post of Mason and one post of Site Supervisor. Naik reiterated that all such recruitments must be conducted through the SSC to ensure transparency, uniformity and merit-based selection.
Referring to the Chief Minister’s statement during the inauguration of the SSC office, Naik said it was clearly stated that all government recruitments would be conducted under the SSC in line with the policy direction of the Government of India. By proceeding independently, he alleged, the MMC has gone against this stated stand. He added that Madganvcho Awaaz would continue to pursue all democratic and legal avenues to safeguard the interests of Margao’s youth and uphold fairness and accountability.
