MAPUSA: Goa Pradesh Mahila Congress held a protest against price rise of Domestic and Commercial Gas Cylinders at Mapusa maket under the leadership of Goa CongressMahila President Smt. Beena Naik along with Parvati Nagvekar,Pratiksha Khalap, Renuka Dessai and other office bearers of Mahila Congress. Media Department Chairman Amarnath Panjikar, General Secretary Vijay Bhike, District President Virendra Shirodkar, Mangaldas Naik and other office bearers of North District Congress were present for the protest.
Putting up a unique demonstration, a group of mahilas led by Congress mahila chief Beena Naik fried ‘pakoras’ in the busy Friday market in Mapusa to register a protest against the recent LPG hike in the country.
The petroleum and oil marketing companies had announced a price hike for domestic and commercial LPG cylinders by Rs 50 and Rs 350 per unit two days ago.
Naik along with other mahilas created a splash on the busy market day in Mapusa by arranging a make-shift wood-burning stove at a prime spot in the market and began frying the pakoras and shouting slogans against the State and Central BJP governments for the price hike on LPG cylinders.
“From Rs 410 per gas cylinder during the Congress time, the double engine BJP led government has taken the price of a cylinder to Rs 1,117 today. What are the poor people going to do? Who will they approach for relief on account of inflation? This is a heartless government which is not concerned about the common man.” Naik said.
She recollected how Union Minister for Women and Child Development Smriti Irani had hit the road with the cylinder on her shoulder when the price of LPG was Rs 410 during the Congress-led government at the Centre.
“Where is Smriti Irani hiding today? Why is she not uttering a word? Our Congress government was concerned and sensitive about people, but this BJP government has no concern for the poor. On the contrary, before elections they increase prices everything. They are squeezing the pockets of the people.” she said.
The other mahila leaders also condemned the hike on LPG cylinders and urged the government to immediately bring down the prices and save the common man from the burden of inflation.
