PANAJI: MakeMyTrip has partnered with Zomato to bring on-train food delivery to passengers across India, offering meals from over 40,000 restaurant partners at more than 130 stations. Travelers booking train tickets through the MakeMyTrip app can now order breakfast, lunch, dinner, and quick snacks directly to their seats, enhancing convenience during their journey.
The collaboration taps into the growing demand for on-board catering. In FY 2024–25, over 90,000 passengers used Indian Railways’ e-catering services daily, reflecting a 66% year-on-year growth. MakeMyTrip’s ‘Food on Train’ feature leverages its proprietary Live Train Status tool to prompt passengers to place orders at the most convenient time, ensuring meals arrive fresh and on schedule.
The initial response to the soft launch with Zomato has been encouraging, indicating strong demand for travel-friendly meals. MakeMyTrip plans to roll out targeted campaigns to boost awareness and adoption of the service further.
Raj Rishi Singh, Chief Business Officer and Chief Marketing Officer at MakeMyTrip, said, “With the launch of our Food on Train Marketplace, we are taking another step in enhancing the travel experience by giving passengers greater choice and convenience. This collaboration with Zomato builds on our focus on customer-centric innovations and opens one of the fastest-growing consumption opportunities in India’s mobility ecosystem.”
Rahul Gupta, VP – Product, Zomato, added, “Our commitment to ‘Serving India’ drives everything we do. This partnership with MakeMyTrip allows train passengers to order meals from their favourite restaurants conveniently, with direct delivery to their seats. We are excited about the value this service brings to travellers.”
As a Diwali special, MakeMyTrip will offer a complimentary coupon redeemable on Zomato orders to passengers booking train journeys, adding extra delight to their travel experience.
The partnership complements MakeMyTrip’s broader train travel offerings, which include pre-booking features such as route extension assistance, nearby station suggestions, connected travel plans, and seat availability forecasts. During booking, passengers can benefit from Seat Lock, Trip Guarantee, and Free Cancellation options. Post-booking, services such as live PNR updates, real-time train tracking, and on-train food delivery ensure a seamless journey.
Since becoming an authorized IRCTC partner, Zomato has delivered over 4.6 million orders across 130+ stations, allowing passengers to enjoy a wide variety of cuisines, price points, and the option to pre-book meals up to seven days in advance using their PNR details.
