PANAJI: The 3rd Asian Veterans Football Tournament unfolded in grand style at the SAG Ground, Vaddie, Benaulim, bringing together football veterans from across the continent for a memorable international sporting event. Hosted by Benaulim Veterans in association with Goa Veterans, and organized under the banner of the Asian Veterans Football Club, the tournament featured six strong contenders: Malaysia, Chennai, Pondicherry, Bangalore, Kerala, and hosts Goa.
The competition witnessed a series of closely fought encounters, culminating in a high-energy final on Sunday where Malaysia outclassed Goa 2-0. The final match was a showcase of skill, teamwork, and the enduring passion of veteran footballers, with spectators treated to an exhilarating display of the sport.
The event was graced by Savio Alemao, owner of Churchill Brothers FC Goa, who attended as the Chief Guest. Former Goa captain and ex-goalkeeper Costao Da Silva served as the Guest of Honour, presenting awards to the players alongside several other dignitaries.
This edition of the tournament marked a significant milestone, being the first international veterans football event of its kind hosted in Benaulim, Goa. With its vibrant atmosphere, competitive spirit, and strong community support, the tournament was declared a resounding success and a proud moment for Goan football.
