PANAJI: All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary Randeep Surjewala has appealed to Mamata Banerjee to extend support to Congress candidates in Goa in a bid to ouster BJP.
Addressing a press conference in Panaji, Surjewala said that Mamata Banerjee is part of our family, and she needs to think whether TMC is here to fight for Goa or help BJP.
“Mamata Banerjee is part of our family. Our leader Sonia Gandhi respect her. TMC needs to think…are they here to fight for Goa, or are they here to help BJP,” he said.
“It’s not too late; I appeal to them to extend support to our candidates,” he added.
Congress is fighting the election in alliance with Goa Forward Party, while TMC has tied up with MGP.
While the Congress-GFP alliance contests all 40 seats, TMC-MGP has fielded candidates in 39 constituencies.
Congress and TMC have been at loggerheads of late, accusing each other of failing to forge an alliance for the upcoming 2022 polls.
Meanwhile, Surjewala took on Arvind Kejriwal led the Aam Aadmi party accusing them of bating for BJP behind the scene. “AAP is playing for BJP behind the scene. Last elections too, they broke our votes, and thus there was a fractured mandate,” he said.
In 2017 polls, BJP won 13 seats while Congress got 17. AAP failed to open the account.
AICC leader took on BJP for a job scam. “Job scam is not just restricted to Goa but also in the other parts of BJP ruled States. It’s their design,” he said.
