PANAJI: Goa suffered a 68 run defeat against Hyderabad women’s cricket team in their opening fixture of the Under 23 Women’s One Day Trophy Elite competition at the Abhimanyu Cricket Academy Ground in Dehradun on Tuesday.
After winning the toss, Hyderabad chose to bat and posted a competitive 282 for 9 in their allotted 50 overs. In reply, Goa women’s cricket team were bowled out for 214 in 44.5 overs despite being well placed for a significant period of the chase.
Hyderabad’s innings saw a dramatic turnaround. Reduced to 137 for 7, they were under severe pressure before wicketkeeper batter Mamatha produced a match defining unbeaten 106 off 76 deliveries, striking 15 boundaries. She forged a crucial 103 run partnership for the eighth wicket with K. Srivalli, who contributed a steady 52. Their stand, along with valuable support from the lower order, lifted Hyderabad to a formidable total.
For Goa, Harshita Yadav, Pooja Kalel and Tanaya Naik picked up two wickets each, while Nirmiti Khanvilkar and Savali Kolambkar claimed one apiece.
In response, opener Urvashi Govekar led the scoring with a patient 54 off 99 balls that included six fours. Tanaya Naik added 30, while Presha Naik, Swarali Kasar and Harshita Yadav chipped in with useful contributions. Goa appeared to be in control at 205 for 5 and looked on course for a strong finish.
However, the innings unravelled rapidly as they lost their final five wickets for just nine runs, ending their hopes of a successful chase.
Kesari Drithi starred with the ball for Hyderabad, finishing with figures of 4 for 38, while Vanka Pooja supported well with 3 for 50.
Goa will look to regroup quickly as they prepare for their next encounter against Saurashtra.
