BENAULIM: Colva Police Station has initiated an investigation into a serious complaint lodged by a woman alleging forceful sexual intercourse and threats by a man who reportedly developed a relationship with her when she was a minor. The accused has been identified as Akash Lamani, 24, a resident of Baga.
According to the complaint filed by the lady, the incidents are alleged to have occurred between November 2021 and the present day in Benaulim. The complainant stated that Lamani fostered a friendly relationship with her while she was still a minor, and subsequently, on different occasions, had forceful sexual intercourse with her under the pretext of marriage. She further alleges that when she resisted, Lamani assaulted and threatened her with dire consequences.
LPSI Raksha Naik of Colva Police Station is leading the ongoing investigation. Authorities have yet to release further details as the probe continues.
This case highlights the serious nature of crimes against minors and the legal protections afforded to them under Indian law, including the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, which defines a child as any person below 18 years of age and carries stringent punishments for sexual offenses against children.
