BICHOLIM: Bicholim Police have arrested a 47-year-old man, identified as Satyawan Harishchandra Gaonkar, in connection with the alleged sexual assault and rape of a 7-year-old minor girl in the taluka. The swift action by the police led to the apprehension of the accused in the early hours of October 5, 2025.
According to the complaint lodged by the victim’s mother, the incident occurred between 9:30 PM and 11:00 PM on October 4, 2025. The complainant stated that the accused took her minor daughter from their house in his white Swift car under the pretext of taking her for fast food. While returning, the accused allegedly stopped the car and sexually assaulted the child, forcefully inserting his fingers into her private part, tearing her underwear, and applying his mouth to her private part, thereby committing rape.
Bicholim Police Station immediately registered a First Information Report (FIR) on October 5, 2025, at 03:49 hrs, vide Crime No. 132/2025. The charges have been filed under various sections of the law, including Section 64 (1) and 65 (2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023, Section 8 (2) of the Goa Children’s Act 2003, and Sections 4, 6, 8, and 12 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act 2012.
A dedicated police team, formed under the supervision of PI Bicholim Vijay Rane, utilized human and local intelligence to trace and apprehend the accused. Mr. Gaonkar, a resident of H. no. 46/2 Upper Savri bhat, Velguem Pale, Bicholim, Goa, was arrested from Velguem Bicholim at 04:34 hrs on October 5, 2025, less than an hour after the FIR was registered.
The white-colored Swift car reportedly used in the commission of the crime has been recovered by the police. The victim has been medically examined at the Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC), Bambolim.
The entire operation was carried out under the leadership of PI Bicholim Vijay Rane, with supervision from SDPO Bicholim Sridevi B. V., IPS, and the overall supervision of SP North Rahul Gupta, IPS. LPSI Sonali Harmalkar is currently leading the investigation, which remains in progress.
