Panaji: Calangute Police have arrested one Shri Pankaj Sachdeva for allegedly cheating a casino in Candolim of ₹6.75 lakh. The case was registered under Cr. No. 39/2025 U/s 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, on the basis of a complaint filed by Mr. Loyal Pradeep D’Souza, Manager of Phoenix Casino at Saipem, Candolim.
As per the complaint, in the early hours of February 27, 2025, at around 3:39 AM, the accused allegedly took ₹6.75 lakh from the casino’s cash desk without the knowledge or consent of his friend, Shri Tanishq Bansal. He proceeded to gamble with ₹4 lakh, which he lost, and fled the premises with the remaining ₹2.75 lakh, thereby cheating the casino.
Through scientific investigation techniques, the accused was traced to his hometown in Haryana. A police team from Calangute Police Station, headed by PSI Harish Vaigankar and comprising PC-6644 Vijay Naik and PC-7522 Gaurav Chodankar, travelled to Haryana and successfully apprehended the accused after intensive efforts.
The accused was produced before the Hon’ble JMFC Court in Mapusa and has been remanded to four days in police custody. The investigation is being carried out by PSI Prajit Mandrekar under the supervision of PI Paresh Naik of Calangute Police Station, with overall supervision by SDPO Porvorim Shri Vishwesh Karpe and SP North Shri Rahul Gupta, IPS.
