PONDA: Ponda Police have arrested a 22-year-old man for allegedly raping a woman multiple times over the past two years under the false promise of marriage. The arrest followed a written complaint lodged by the 21-year-old victim, a resident of Topcola, Borim. In her complaint, the woman alleged that the accused, Rameshwar Tambde, a resident of Talaulim, Ponda, established physical relations with her on several occasions between 2023 and May 2025 by assuring her that he would marry her. Based on the contents of the complaint and after consultations with the Ponda Police Inspector and senior officers, an FIR was registered at Ponda Police Station under Sections 376 (rape) and 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code. The accused has been taken into custody, and FIR copies are being submitted to the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC), Ponda, and other concerned authorities. Wireless messages regarding the arrest have also been flashed to the Police Control Rooms in Panaji and Margao.
