CALANGUTE: Police have arrested a 26-year-old man from Chhattisgarh for allegedly raping and assaulting a woman on the pretext of marriage at a villa in Calangute over a period of more than three years.
Calangute Police registered Cr. No. 79/2025 under sections 69, 115(2), and 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, on 14 May 2025, after receiving a letter from the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Zone IX, Bandra (W), Mumbai. The letter enclosed the original FIR and complaint filed at Versova Police Station (Zero FIR No. 009/2025).
According to police, between 3 January 2022 and 9 March 2025, at an unidentified villa in Calangute, accused Amandeep Orare, 26, a resident of Dongargarh in Rajnandgaon, Chhattisgarh, allegedly had forceful sexual intercourse with the complainant under the false promise of marriage. The accused also allegedly assaulted her over petty issues and issued threats.
During the investigation, Calangute Police used technical surveillance to trace the accused to Dongargarh. A police team comprising PSI Saieel Vaigankar, PC Basuraj Hadpat, and PC Rajan Chandgadkar was dispatched to Chhattisgarh, where the accused was located and apprehended with the assistance of local police.
After completing the necessary legal formalities and informing his family and the local police station, the accused was brought to Goa on a four-day transit remand. He was formally arrested at Calangute Police Station on 1 July 2025 at 10.37 pm after confirmation of his involvement in the crime.
Police said the operation was carried out under the guidance of PI Paresh Naik of Calangute Police Station and the supervision of SDPO Vishwesh Karpe and SP North Rahul Gupta. Further investigation is in progress.
