Mandrem: Mandrem Police arrested a 38-year-old man and seized over 4.7 kilograms of suspected ganja during a late-night narcotics raid at Morjim in Pernem taluka.
According to police, the offence was registered at around 11.47 pm on January 25 on the complaint of Police Sub-Inspector J. Abhishekh Chodankar (30), attached to Mandrem Police Station.
Acting on specific and reliable information, a police team led by PSI Chodankar, along with two panch witnesses, conducted a narcotics raid between 9.02 pm and 10.35 pm at a parking area at Khind, Morjim.
During the raid, the police apprehended Moheddin Patevegar (38), a resident of Kanchagar Oni, Hangal Pattana, Mattu, and found him in illegal possession of a greenish leafy substance with toppings suspected to be ganja, weighing 4.722 kilograms.
The contraband is estimated to be worth approximately ₹4.72 lakh. Police also seized a Vivo V-30 mobile handset from the accused.
In this connection, Mandrem Police registered an offence under Section 20(b)(ii)(B) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. The accused was arrested in the early hours of January 26 at around 12.37 am.
