Calangute: The Calangute Police arrested a 40-year-old man for illegal possession of suspected ganja following a late-night raid at Sinquerim in Bardez.
As per police information, on January 28, 2026, at around 4.50 am, an offence was registered on the state complaint of Shri Saieel Vaigankar, Police Sub-Inspector attached to Calangute Police Station. The complaint stated that during the intervening hours between 1.15 am and 3.00 am on January 28, 2026, a raid was conducted behind Kings Villa at Sinquerim, Bardez, Goa.
During the raid, police apprehended the accused, identified as Susanta Mondal, son of Haripada Mondal, aged 40 years. He is presently residing at Candolim, Bardez, Goa, and is a native of Shimulpur, North 24 Parganas district, West Bengal. Upon search, police found him in illegal possession of a greenish dry leafy substance suspected to be ganja, weighing about 1,100 grams and valued at approximately ₹1.10 lakh. The contraband was seized under a Search and Seizure Panchanama.
The accused was arrested on January 28, 2026, at 5.07 am and was later lodged in the Calangute Police Station lock-up after undergoing a medical examination at PHC Candolim. The doctor on duty certified him fit for custody. Police stated that all Supreme Court guidelines were duly followed.
Further investigation in the case is being carried out by PSI Vighnesh Naik of Calangute Police Station.
