BICHOLIM: Bicholim Police have registered a case against a man for allegedly transporting a calf in an unsafe and cruel manner on a two-wheeler, endangering both human life and animal welfare.
The incident occurred around 11:00 AM on June 20 at Varpal-Aturlem, Bicholim. The accused, identified as Mustaq Gausha Bepari (39), a resident of Pandav Wada, Chorao, Tiswadi, was found riding a Honda Activa scooter bearing registration number GA-07-H-8381. He was allegedly riding recklessly and without a helmet while carrying a calf inside a white plastic sack in a manner that caused unnecessary pain and distress to the animal.
Based on a complaint filed by Siddhesh Ajit Menkurkar (37), OC-PC-6467, the Bicholim Police registered FIR No. 76/2025 under Sections 281 and 125 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023, Sections 129 and 185 of the Motor Vehicles Act, and Section 11(1)(d) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.
Police stated that the manner in which the accused transported the calf posed a risk not only to the animal but also to road safety and public well-being. Further investigation is currently underway.
