Porvorim: Porvorim Police have registered an offence against a 39-year-old man for allegedly accepting gambling bets in a public place near the Sports and Cultural Club, Porvorim. The case was registered on February 18, 2026 at 21:21 hrs based on a state complaint filed by Assistant Sub Inspector Prashant Naik of Porvorim Police Station.
As per the complaint, between 19:40 hrs and 20:45 hrs on the same day, the accused, identified as Sitaram Sawant, resident of Satingan Wada, Khorlim, Mapusa, Bardez-Goa, was caught red-handed while allegedly accepting gambling bets from members of the public in an open public place. Police stated that the accused was issuing paper slips bearing numerical figures in connection with the betting activity.
During the operation, police seized cash amounting to ₹1,140 in different denominations from his possession. Other gambling-related articles, including one paper slip, a piece of carbon paper and a ball pen, were also seized and attached under panchanama.
Further investigation into the case is in progress.
