PANAJI: Panaji Police on Tuesday evening caught a 36-year-old man red-handed while accepting illegal money bets in a public place at St. Inez.
According to police, the accused, Umesh Gaonkar, resident of Ardhawada, Mayem, Bicholim, was apprehended at around 7:15 pm opposite Ashwini Café, St. Inez. He was allegedly accepting money bets on numerical digital numbers, a game of chance, from members of the public.
During the raid, police seized cash amounting to ₹1,350 in different denominations, along with other gambling articles.
An offence was registered later the same night, and further investigation is being carried out by HC Samir Naik of Panaji Police Station.
