MAPUSA: Mapusa Police arrested one person for allegedly carrying out illegal gambling activities near Hotel Satyaheera in Mapusa on Sunday evening.
According to police, based on a complaint filed by ASI Mahesh Shetgaonkar of Mapusa Police Station, a raid was conducted between 7:30 pm and 8:30 pm on April 28. During the operation, the accused — Narendra Pandurang Naik, 40, residing at Ansabhat, Mapusa — was caught red-handed while conducting a game of chance in contravention of the Goa, Daman and Diu Public Gambling Act.
Police seized Rs 2,050 in cash along with other gambling accessories from Naik’s possession.
An FIR has been registered under Mapusa Police Station Cr. No. 69/25 under Section 11(2)(a) of the GDDPG Act. Naik was arrested at 8:34 pm and released at 8:47 pm on the same evening.
Further investigation is underway.
