Panaji: Agacaim Police have apprehended a 58-year-old man for allegedly accepting matka gambling bets at Goa Velha Market in Tiswadi on Wednesday evening.
According to police, the offence was registered on March 5 at 9:19 pm based on a complaint lodged by Head Constable Sudesh Mangadkar (HC-7110) of Agacaim Police Station on behalf of the State.
The accused has been identified as Shiddappa Hosmani (58), son of Durgappa Hosmani, a resident of House No. 122, Padribhat, St. Lourenceo, Agacaim in Tiswadi.
Police stated that at around 7:45 pm, the accused was caught red-handed while allegedly accepting matka gambling bets by soliciting and collecting wagers on numerical digits using paper slips at the Goa Velha Market.
During the raid, police seized cash amounting to Rs 1,050 in different denominations (Rs 500×1, Rs 200×1, Rs 100×3, and Rs 50×1) along with gambling-related materials including a ball pen, one piece of carbon paper, a calculator, and a paper slip book containing numerical entries from the possession of the accused.
Further investigation in the case is being carried out by HC Sudesh Mangadkar (HC-7040) of Agacaim Police Station.
