VERNA: Verna police have registered a case after a man succumbed to serious injuries sustained in a road accident at IDC Verna earlier this week.
According to the police, the incident occurred on June 17 near the Herald company when Francisco Pedro Fernandes, a bus driver from Majorda, allegedly drove his vehicle in a rash and negligent manner while proceeding from Titan junction Verna towards Loutolim. Upon reaching near the Herald company, the bus reportedly struck 45-year-old Babush Gaonkar, a resident of Panchwadi-Ponda, who was replacing a punctured tyre on his Honda Amaze car.
Gaonkar sustained grievous injuries and was rushed to Goa Medical College, Bambolim, for treatment. However, police later received information on June 19 from the GMC casualty police that Gaonkar had succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment.
The body has been preserved at GMC for further medico-legal formalities.
Verna police have registered the case under Sections 281 and 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). PSI Rajdatt Arsekar is conducting further investigation under the supervision of PI Anand Shirodkar and guidance of Mormugao DySP Gurudas Kadam.
