SIOLIM: A 50-year-old man from Mumbai lost his life in a suspected self-accident early Wednesday morning near the Hindu cremation centre in Oxel, Siolim.
The deceased, identified as *Pio Vijay Alende, son of Anthony Emelian Fernandes, was reportedly traveling from Ajoba Furniture, Siolim, towards Our Lady of the Sea Church when the accident occurred at around 8:30 a.m. According to the police, initial observations at the scene suggest that it may have been a case of self-accident.
At approximately 10:55 a.m., the Casualty Department at Asilo Hospital, Mapusa, informed the Anjuna Police Station that an unidentified male victim of a motor vehicle accident had been brought in dead by a 108 ambulance.
Following a preliminary inquiry, a case of motor vehicle accident (MVA No. 35/2025) was registered, and an unnatural death report (UD No. 30/2025) under Section 194 of the BNSS was filed at Anjuna Police Station.
Alende was a resident of German House, Gaunsavaddo, near Holy Cross High School, Siolim*, and a native of Moti Mahal, Tulsi Pipe Road, Mahim (West), Mumbai.
The body has been preserved at the GMC morgue in Bambolim for post-mortem examination and medico-legal formalities. The inquiry is being led by PSI Saish S. Shetgaonkar, and further investigations are ongoing to ascertain the exact cause of the accident.
