PONDA: An unnatural death case has been registered at Ponda Police Station following the death of a 48-year-old man who allegedly died by suicide at Pattantaly, Ponda, on December 22, 2025.
Police informed that at around 7.06 am, information was received from Alliston Fernandes, a resident of Curti, Ponda, stating that his uncle, Anthony Santos Fernandes (48), a resident of Pattantaly, Ponda, had hanged himself from a ceiling fan using a bedsheet as ligature material.
On receipt of the information, police rushed to the spot and contacted the 108 ambulance service. The ambulance staff examined the victim and declared him dead.
During the course of enquiry with family members, it was revealed that the deceased had been working in Australia since 2007 and had recently returned to Goa on December 6, 2025.
He was reportedly suffering from mental depression related to work and was undergoing medical treatment for the same.
Police conducted a scene of occurrence panchanama, and the body was later preserved at the South Goa District Hospital, Margao, for further medico-legal formalities.
